Commissioner Morrison’s 2026 Outdoors Day will mark the eighth year his office has hosted an event around Father’s Day weekend to promote the outdoor spaces in the Northwest suburbs. \n“Our community is filled with incredible green spaces that bring us together! The 15th District is fortunate to have Busse Woods among the many amazing outdoor spaces that are part of the Forest Preserves of Cook County and available to residents of the Northwest Suburbs\,” Commissioner Kevin Morrison said. “I encourage everyone to join me and our wonderful partners at Busse Lake for our fishing derby!” \nThe Busse Lake Fishing Derby will take place at Grove #25 at Busse Lake within the Busse Woods Forest Preserve from 9 a.m. to noon. Fishing derby participants must register in advance at https://buff.ly/PH2BFLJ. The event is free. Fishing derby participants do not need a fishing license during Father’s Day weekend. People with all experience levels are welcome to participate. Limited bait will be available. Prizes will be given for a variety of categories. \nCommissioner Morrison will be in attendance along with community partners including the Arlington Anglers Fishing Club\, Brookfield Zoo Chicago\, the Forest Preserves District of Cook County\, the Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability\, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District\, Minds with Motion\, and Cook County Health. There will also be complimentary ice cream from Good News in the Neighborhood!

DESCRIPTION:Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison to host free in-person Environmental Resource Fair   \nThe Fair will feature family-friendly activities aimed at helping people make their communities greener\, cleaner\, and more sustainable  \nCook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison (District 15) will host a free in-person Environmental Resource Fair on Saturday\, Aug. 22nd\, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to help Cook County residents learn how to protect the environment. The fair will be held at Rahlfs Woods (1350 S Park Ave\, Streamwood\, IL 60107) and feature a wide variety of family-friendly events and activities.  \nEach co-sponsor will have a table set up with information and activities. The fair is co-sponsored by Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Eira Corral Sepúlveda\, Poplar Creek Library District\, Streamwood Park District\, the Village of Streamwood\, Hanover Township\, the Forest Preserves of Cook County\, Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court Mariyana Spyropoulos\, Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability\, ComEd\, Ride Illinois\, the Citizens Utility Board\, Pace bus\, Schaumburg Monarch Initiative\, 350 Chicago\, and Third Act Illinois. \nThe fair will be held inside the Poplar Creek Library if there is inclement weather. Prospective attendees can register for the event at: https://forms.gle/p7c2DM4oK1mm1gSK9. \nGiveaways and activities will include:  \n\nMWRD: Providing tree saplings\, milkweed and native plants seeds\, and ways to keep our waterways clean. \nHanover Township: collecting household batteries to be recycled\nCook County Department of Environment and Sustainability: handing out bamboo straws and reusable cutlery and bringing a variety of brochures on electric vehicles\, utility savings programs\, and more. \n\nWill have a truck collecting items that are hard to recycle such as Styrofoam products\, small electronics appliances\, and clothing.\n\n\nThe Forest Preserves of Cook County: staff from their River Trail Nature Center will be there to showcase programs\, provide maps\, and will have fun freebies for all ages.\nCitizens Utility Board: providing information on ComEd billing\, Energy Efficiency Programs\, Solar Programs\, Alternative Suppliers\, and general energy saving along with fun giveaways. \nComEd: will provide community information on their solar program\, EV charging incentive\, and energy efficiency\, and they will have giveaways for all ages. \nPoplar Creek Public Library:  will have handouts about our Extraordinary Things collection\, getting a library card\, and community resources at their Mobile Library Van. \nRide Illinois: promoting bike safety\, everyday trips by bike\, and the many benefits of riding a bike along with fun giveaways. \nStreamwood Park District: will be passing out wildflower seed packets.\nSchaumburg Monarch Initiative: learn how to support Monarch Butterflies. \nPace: promoting their Fixed Route Service\, ADA Paratransit Services\, and career opportunities\, and they will have giveaways for all ages. \nMy office will be helping distribute native plant seeds along with “How to Draw a Bird” pamphlets/instructions\, and Chicago wilderness species of concern templates to color. \nComplete our event passport to earn prizes from the Brookfield Zoo\, Chicago Botanic Garden\, and Cook County’s Secretary to the Board Office.
