Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison announces Small Business Tour to bring resources directly to mom-and-pop shops

Commissioner to visit small businesses in Schaumburg, Bartlett, and Elk Grove

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Nov. 9, 2021 – Today, Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison (District 15) announced he will kick off a Small Business Tour on Wednesday, Nov. 17 to help share resources with local small businesses. Commissioner Morrison will visit mom-and-pop shops in the 15th District to ensure they have the tools and help they need to continue to recover from the pandemic.

In partnership with the Schaumburg Business Association (SBA), Village of Bartlett staff, Elk Grove Village staff, and the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development, Commissioner Morrison will visit small businesses and local manufacturers and retailers in Schaumburg, Bartlett, and Elk Grove from Wednesday, Nov. 17 to Tuesday, Nov. 23.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” said Commissioner Morrison. “I know firsthand how challenging and devastating this pandemic has been for too many mom-and-pop shops. That’s why I’m going door-to-door to visit small businesses in the Northwest suburbs to talk directly with owners and workers about the issues they face and to ensure they have the help, resources, and assistance they need to recover and thrive.”

“Commissioner Morrison stands out as a partner and champion for small businesses,” said Xochitl Flores, bureau chief of the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development. “The Bureau of Economic Development looks forward to hearing the findings from the small business census and collaborating to better meet the needs of small businesses in the Northwest suburbs and throughout Cook County. We appreciate his leadership to ensure small business owners have the tools and resources they need.”

“Schaumburg has one of the most vibrant business communities in Illinois, and we thank Commissioner Morrison and the Bureau of Economic Development for working hard to ensure business owners know about the important resources and assistance available to them,” said Lisa Gilbert, president of the Schaumburg Business Association. “We look forward to visiting small businesses with Commissioner Morrison, and we thank Cook County for its ongoing support of the Schaumburg Business Association and Schaumburg business community.”

Commissioner Morrison will visit manufacturing and retail businesses in Schaumburg with the SBA on Wednesday, Nov. 17. He will visit businesses in Bartlett on Friday, Nov. 19 and Elk Grove on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Commissioner Morrison will provide handouts with information on Cook County’s COVID-19 Recovery: Small Business Assistance Program and online one-stop-shop for small businesses, which offers resources and educational materials for business owners and entrepreneurs. The commissioner helped launched the small business one-stop-shop last year.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Cook County has provided more than $32 million in grants and technical assistance support to small businesses with less than 20 employees, grants and forgivable loans to more than 2,100 businesses, and advising services to more than 2,900 businesses.
