You may have heard that starting on in 2020, the senior homestead exemption will renew automatically for those who qualify and apply; those who were 65 years old on January 1st of the applicable tax year.
Thank you to Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi for spearheading this as well as State Representative, Fred Crespo for leading the efforts at the State level along with Senator Laura Ellman in the Senate.
One of my priorities was to advocate for the removal of the annual requirement for the senior exemption and it is incredible to see it happen within the first year! I will continue to look for more ways to streamline processes and help them work better for all residents.
